The Artist
Focused on the transpersonal properties of Art Therapy, Puerto Rican artist Elena Bonilla embraces process as a means of personal therapy. Bonilla's exploitation of method has enabled her to explore more meaningfully into the theme of self-identity.
Through textured layering, Bonilla has used layers of paint as a way to reflect the inner layers of human personality. Her use of subject matter is meant to portray personal recollections of places and events that invoke a common nostalgia among her audience.
Bonilla's knowledge and experience in Printmaking have pushed her to work the practice of painting as a means to build up and break down thick layers of paint. By studying both mediums, Bonilla has found intention to interpret both styles of process to her favor.
